Carol A. Dawson, CCDP
Carol Dawson, President of EEO GUIDANCE, Inc., provides nationally recognized consulting and training services in the field of EqualOpportunity – Affirmative Ation/Employment – Diversity/Inclusion – Harassment (Title VII)–Affirmative Action Programs, along with creating Affirmative Action Programs in compliance with Executive Order 11246. Dawson provides straight talking, “NEVER BORING” interactive training workshops for the current workforce and beyond. She has been training professionally for over 25 years and sessions include a variety of facts, life/work experiences, statistics, legal decisions, and realistic suggestions for improving your work environment.
Dawson’s mixture of story telling (including experiences as a military brat) and factual/legal information leads the audience toward understanding the value of respecting diversity/differences while also giving awareness of equality and affirmative employment laws. Dawson’s personal work experiences, such as her career as a Sr. Compliance Officer and Area Director for the U.S. Dept. of Labor (DOL)/Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), provide a platform from which she blends humor with the serious issues surrounding EEO and Affirmative Employment today. Audiences leave better equipped to handle the day to day conflicts they encounter because of their improved understanding of diversity, EEO, and affirmative action confusion. Management officials and employees leave the training with a better understanding of their personal obligations. Employers learn how ‘doing the right thing’ will make a difference on their bottom line.
Dawson has held federal EEO compliance positions as EEO Counselor for US Navy/Naval Ordnance Station, Area Director for the DOL/OFCCP, Senior Compliance Officer, and EEO Manager for Commerce/Census/NPC. While with OFCCP, Dawson served as a national certified trainer for new Compliance Officers and provided new Compliance Officer training across the U.S. She was selected by OFCCP Director, Cari Dominguez’, to train the national office legal and administrative staff. Dawson has been honored with the Louisville Key to the City, Labor’s top award, the Distinguished Career Service Award, the Louisville American Business Women’s Woman of the Year, and was a national finalist for the business award, The Stevie Business Award – Women in Business.
Dawson is a Lead Mediator for the Federal Alternate Dispute Resolution Council and has been donating her time to resolve conflicts within the federal government for over 17 years. She has a Business Administration degree from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and successfully completed a year long Cornell University program certifying her as a Cornell Certified Diversity Professional (CCDP).
Dawson writes EEO and Diversity articles for Business First, Louisville, Kentucky, and a monthly column for The Evening News and New Albany Tribune, The Extra Milers. The column was recognized by the Society of Newspaper Columnists by awarding Dawson the Will Rogers Humanitarian Award in 2008. Dawson is active on multiple boards and community groups. She recently collaborating with local agencies to create Diversity/Inclusion training curriculum for non-profit agencies.
